Why are fish disappearing from the Baltic Sea?

More and more often, fishermen from Sopot return from the sea with empty nets. The first in a series of videos now on YouTube!

Tourists visiting the Baltic Coast can buy fresh fish for only a few months a year. At the same time, the levels of microplastics, heavy metals, and pesticides in the seas and oceans continue to rise.

Dr Michael Lintner investigates the impact of these pollutants on the microorganisms at the base of the food chain that ultimately leads to humans. – We want to make a conclusion which substances should be avoided in by aquaculture and in agriculture – says dr Lintner, from Institute of Geological Sciences PAS – All the pollution we put in the environment will be absorbed into microorganisms and higher animals. And we finally eat these animals and get ourselves enriched with these pollutants.
