Short summary of activities and expertiseThe term “waste valorization” becomes an essential strategy to build an eco-friendly and clean environment. Effective transformation of industrial by-products into useful concreting material is a vital strategy to overcome the sustainability issues in the field of construction, and it also safeguards the environment from the toxic solid wastes discarded from industries. My Ph.D. thesis deals with the utilization of Induction Furnace Slag (a waste by-product from the steel-producing industry) as a coarse aggregate in self-compacting concrete. The fresh, mechanical, and durability properties were assessed for the produced SCC mixes. My doctoral thesis elaborates on the feasibility of using slag as coarse aggregate in concrete, the durability issues associated with the usage of slag aggregates, and techniques to improve the durability of the concrete containing slag aggregates (5 Journal publications from my Ph.D. Thesis). I have good exposure to special concretes, durability tests in concrete, corrosion of steel embedded in the concrete, and corrosion mitigation techniques. In my postdoctoral research at Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, I have extensively worked on the following areas: concrete durability, chloride-induced corrosion, carbonation-induced corrosion, the role of corrosion inhibitors on the corrosion initiation of steel, corrosion in post-tensioning strands and performance specifications for prepackaged grouts for post-tensioning applications. My research interests include, but are not limited to the following areas: • Sustainable concreting materials and waste valorization. • Durability and corrosion resistance of the steel embedded in the sustainable concrete made with slag aggregates. • Volume stability of the concrete made with steel slag aggregates. • Development of prepackaged grouts for post-tensioning applications. • Rheology of cement-based materials. • 3D printing of concrete using ultrahigh performance cementitious materials.
