Short summary of activities and expertise | My research during doctoral studies deals with dissimilar friction stir welding of aluminium and steel alloys. Thus far, the research findings are very enlightening in producing a defect-free joint and optimizing the process parameters for high joint strength. The effect of process parameters on the joint strength was studied in detail using material characterization techniques like scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction analysis, energy dispersive spectroscopy. The formation of intermetallic compounds and their effect on deteriorating the joint strength was analyzed as well. A mathematical model was developed using the Taguchi approach and Regression Analysis to optimize the process parameters for achieving a high joint strength. |
