Short summary of activities and expertise | My cultural heritage informs me as an artist and educator. My biography is a motivating resource that provides insight and empathy to otherwise abstracted issues. Through art, I reflect upon my own migration history and relationship to the Polish neighborhood along Milwaukee Ave, where my mother arrived and became a prominent member of the community after she opened a cellular store on N. Milwaukee Ave. My determination as a photographer will guide me through subject matters that simultaneously interest me on a personal level and hold broader relevance to Polish American communities. I was born in Poland. At 7, with my father, I migrated to Greece, and then to Chicago in 1994. My undergraduate studies at Loyola University, in Political Science and Philosophy, and graduate studies at Yale University in photography, have influenced my approach to the development of conceptual projects. I use various cameras, from large format to my iPhone. I make work for Instagram, residencies and Time Magazine. My role as an educator influences this project by mirroring current events and interests which fuel my research. |
