Short summary of activities and expertiseLukasiewicz - Kraków Institute of Technology conducts interdisciplinary research covering both conventional and modern technologies of manufacturing and processing materials. The Institute develops 3D printing technologies based on metals, plastics and ceramics, and produces materials and tools for the high-tech industry. Other research areas of the Institute include the design and production of materials for electromobility, including fuel cells, the production and processing of composite and nanocomposite materials for special applications, or development in the field of robotization and automation of processes consistent with the assumptions of Industry 4.0. Scientists from Łukasiewicz - Krakow Institute of Technology also undertake work in the field of designing material and technological solutions for the renewable energy industry, including offshore wind energy and the domestic photovoltaic sector. Additionally, the area of corrosion research will be extended to include biocorrosion and corrosion in a chloride environment.
Role and profile of key persons (incl. supervisor)Research, development and implementation works of Łukasiewicz Research Network – Krakow Institute of Technology are carried out in five Research Centres, i.e.: Centre of Materials Research, Centre of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, Centre of Casting Technology, Centre for Sustainable Energy Sources, Centre for Biomedical Application Technologies. The scientists within these five Centres form r the key team of the Institute’sresearch division, and are responsible for generating innovative solutions for industry. The Institute also offers commercial services executed mainly by the Department of Laboratories (including Accredited Laboratories), as well as by the Department of Certification. In addition, the Institute features the Department of Production, which focuses on the design and manufacturing of production lines for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical and food industries. The vast array of specialized equipment within the Institute allows for research on a laboratory scale as well as a semi-industrial scale.
Previous and current involvement in research and training programmesThe Institute focuses mainly on R&D projects and services. The Institute’s laboratories develop new technologies, materials and measurement methods for universities, research institutes and R&D departments of commercial entities. Representatives of automotive, foundry, tool, aviation, energy, medical and many other industries are the recipients of solutions developed at the Institute. The high level of works carried out at the Institute is guaranteed by cooperation with numerous research centres around the world, covering joint research projects, staff exchange and valuable experience in the field of research and implementation.

Key research facilities, infrastructure, and equipmentAn experimental complex that has been designed for investigations of high temperature capillarity phenomena by various testing methods (classical sessile drop, pendant drop, sandwiched drop, transferred drop, drop sucking, etc.) at a temperature of up to 2100 °C under vacuum of up to 10−7 hPa or in protective atmosphere (static or flowing gas with controlled rate at required level of pressure). High-resolution (down to 0.5 μm) 3D CT device for a precise non-destructive inspections of metallic and non-metallic samples and objects. Previously, widely applied for analyses of both sessile drop samples, as well as exploited PCM containers.
