Short summary of activities and expertiseThe main activity of the group borders the fields of molecular biology and computational chemistry. We are using an advanced theoretical approach to investigate the properties of various enzymes, to design biologically active compounds, and to help experimentalists interpret their results.
Role and profile of key persons (incl. supervisor)Artur Góra PhD, since 2014 head of the independent scientific laboratory – Tunneling Group located in Biotechnology Centre in Politechnika Slaska (BCSUT). In 2016-2019 Deputy Director of Sciences of BCSUT. The one of the initiator of the core facility for the protein-ligand interaction study at SUT. Research interests: computational chemistry, bioinformatics and tool development. He has developed a new method for protein interior analysis using molecular probe tracking approach. His expertise lies in the engineering of enzymes activity and selectivity, proteins structure study, analysis of molecular aspects of rare diseases, development of drugs and inhibitors using combination of experimental and computational methods. Management & participation in 9 national & international projects, 3 years’-experience in institute management, responsible for coordination and development strategy of institute combining multidisciplinary research (chemistry, structural biology, molecular biology, microbiology, bioinformatics, medical and environmental biotechnology).
Previous and current involvement in research and training programmesWe have experience in NCN project management (OPUS, SONATA-BIS, HARMONIA), NCBiR. Potential supervisor has experience in MSCA type of grants. National Centre of Polish Science (NCN) – Role of the gates and anchoring residues in enzymes activity and selectivity - SONATA-BIS - finalized National Centre of Polish Science (NCN) – Reversible modification of enzyme activity and substrate specificity by engineering of the ligand exchange pathways - HARMONIA - finalized National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) – Antimicrobials of the Sea: Identification of Marine-derived Bacteriocins and Their Antimicrobial Activity – bilateral grant with TUBITAK Marmara Research Center - running, OPUS - Design of high selective and safe juvenile hormone epoxide hydrolases inhibitors targeting selected pests based on the combination of analysis of intramolecular voids dynamics and enzymes evolution study (NCN) running, Horizon Europa - Teaching Lytic Polysaccharide Monooxygenases to do Cytochrome P450 Catalysis - starting June 2022.

Key research facilities, infrastructure, and equipmentSilesian University of Technology offers full administrative and accounting support for projects carried out by its employees. Relevant project management experience is demonstrated by current and past projects and organization of scientific events which have been carried out. The Project Management Center (CZP) tasks include: (i) monitoring and control of the project implementation and project budgets, (ii) overseeing the project financing, (iii) management training and knowledge transfer for project leaders. Applicant will receive intensive training run by CZP, which will contribute to the proper implementation of proposed research tasks. Project Management Center co-operates with other organizational units of the Silesian University of Technology assisting with preparation and implementation of projects. The support is ensured on every stage of project, from daily activities up to emergent case and implementation of alternative activities, by dedicated specialists from the Office for European Projects and the Office for Financial Service of Projects. Financial and accounting services of all projects at the Silesian University of Technology are provided by Kwestura of the Silesian University of Technology .
