Short summary of activities and expertiseCurrently we are active in four different fields: 1. Computational homogenous catalysis. We are developing new computational tools for computational catalysis and applying them to study olefin metathesis catalyzed by ruthenium complexes. 2. Computational organocatalysis and organic chemsitry. We are slowly moving towards focusing more of our attention into metal-less catalysis and studying organocatalytic reactions of practical importance. 3. Computational materials science and the description of chemical and physical phenonema at interfaces using QM/MM methods. 4. Biophysics and drug design for the development of new biologically-active compounds against serotonin receptors and interleukin receptors.
Role and profile of key persons (incl. supervisor)Bartosz Trzaskowski is a group leader at the Centre of New Technologies (CeNT), University of Warsaw. He is interested in the development of computational methods for the description of chemical, physical and biological phenomena. His main research area is the mechanistic description of various catalytic processes, particularly those related to olefin metathesis catalyzed by ruthenium-based complexes. He is also interested in chemistry of carbenes, organocatalysis and mechanically interlocked molecular architectures in the context of stereoselective catalysis. Prior to joining CeNT Bartosz Trzaskowski was a research assistant/postdoctoral scholar at the California Institute of Technology with William Goddard and the University of Arizona with Ludwik Adamowicz. He was also working on the development and coding of new protocols for the prediction of the 3-dimensional, all-atom structure of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) as well as an interdisciplinary project bridging chemistry, biochemistry, biology and materials science he developed new methods and computational protocols for predicting the orientation of proteins on surfaces. His work was also fundamental to explore the biology and chemistry of microtubules and their potential use as nanoscale interconnectors. His main achievement in this topic was elucidation of Taxol nucleation and its impact on microtubules formation.
Previous and current involvement in research and training programmesWe have currently 7 NCN grants in our group and have large experience in successful applications for funding in Poland and EU, including former calls of POLONEZ.
