Short summary of activities and expertiseMy thesis is on lipoconjugation of natural phenolics to prepare lipophilic antioxidant for their application in lipid-based food formulation. Three types of phenolics were chosen for lipophilic modification, (a) Phenolic acids (b) Non-pungent capsaicinoids i.e., capsiates and capsiconiates (c) Curcumin. I have prepared phenolic lipids of different chain lengths of fatty acid chemo-enzymatically, and evaluated their antioxidant activities in different mediums such as food matrix (vegetable oil as a medium) and food emulsions (oil in water) and antimicrobial activities. During my doctoral period, I have involved in other projects related to analytical chemistry such as data interpretation of fatty acids and their derivatives in fat liquors utilizing GC, GC-MS and HPLC instrumentation. All the projects are industrial-oriented problems and solved successfully. In a collaborative project, I have successfully carried out the isolation of gamma-linolenic acid from a fungal source by urea crystallization technique to obtain a pure gamma linolenic acid for dietary supplementation and pharmaceutical applications. In another collaborative project, I have successfully isolated glycolipids from microbial source and carried out analysis to use it as laundry detergent additive. Apart from my PhD work, I have gained experience in the polymer and medicinal chemistry during my postdoctoral stay at different universities. During this period of postdoctoral training I worked on various projects including isolation of agarose from Gracelaria sp. algae using different polycations to get the quality agarose. Synthesis of vinyl monomers, polymers, and hydrogels for the detection of high-energy materials in trace level. Biodegradable polyhydroxyurethanes from renewable diamines and bis-carbonates. preparation of polystyrene porous particles for chromatographic applications. Antiviral disinfectant for coronavirus funded by EIT-Helath.
